Being There – July 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Center for Spiritual Wisdom’s July film selection is Being There (1979). The Center will host an online community discussion of the film on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

Peter Sellers stars in the role of Chance, a gardener who likes to watch TV. By sheer happenstance and relentless misunderstanding, Chance enters an ever-expanding circle of famous and influential people and becomes famous and influential himself in his own humble, unassuming manner. It’s an endearing comedy where words are given depth beyond the speaker’s intentions, and yet, by Chance, are given to the viewer as a consideration of prophecy and delusion. The screenplay by Jerzy Konsinski is brilliant and is based on his novel of the same name.
