Next Film Discussion:
Chocolat – June 16 at 7:00 p.m.
Center for Spiritual Wisdom’s June film selection is Chocolat (2000). The Center will host an online community discussion of the film on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Among other things, this “delicious” romantic comedy centers on relationships, religion, and the transformation of hearts. Starring Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, and Johnny Depp, the film earned five Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
David Ansen of Newsweek wrote: “The moral argument may be pat and predictable, but the movie disarms you with its charm and its solid craftsmanship….“
Jeffrey Overstreet of Looking Closer wrote: “Most movies that criticize religion argue for the abolition of institutions. Chocolat suggests the problem lies in how people manipulate religion to get what they want.“

Participants are asked to view Chocolat prior to the discussion on June 16. The Center will lead and host electronically through Zoom. The 2-hour discussion will be facilitated by Reel Spirit Movie Project regulars Donald McRae and Vivian Bikulege.
There is no fee for this event. However, donations to Center for Spiritual Wisdom, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, will be gratefully accepted. A suggested donation of $5 or more per film discussion will help us continue to offer this and similar events.

Registrations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis and you can choose to make a donation via Eventbrite. After registration, participants will receive information about the film, a discussion guide that focuses on key themes, and a dedicated link to join the discussion.
