Next Film Discussion: The Polar Express
Dec. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
Center for Spiritual Wisdom’s December film selection is The Polar Express (2004). The Center will host an online community discussion of the film on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
The film is based on the 1985 illustrated children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. According to the author, “The Polar Express is about faith, and the power of imagination to sustain faith. It’s also about the desire to reside in a world where magic can happen, the kind of world we all believed in as children, but one that disappears as we grow older”.
For more information about this delightful holiday classic, see IMDB here. This film is available and can be rented via Apple iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Vudu, Microsoft Store, Redbox, AMC on Demand, and DIRECTV (for $3.99). Please check your local library as well for DVD or streaming options. You can view the trailer here.
Participants are asked to view the film prior to the discussion on December 15. The Center will lead and host electronically through Zoom. The 2-hour discussion will be facilitated by Cindy Decker, Operations & Communications Manager at the Center. Cindy is a repeat Facilitator for RSMP discussions, and is encouraging all attendees to find your childlike sense of wonder, wear your pajamas, and bring your cup of cocoa (or other beverage of your choice) to this discussion!
There is no fee for this event. However, donations to Center for Spiritual Wisdom, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, will be gratefully accepted. A suggested donation of $5 or more per film discussion will help us continue to offer this and similar events.
Registrations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis and you can choose to make a donation via Eventbrite. After registration, participants will receive information about the film, a discussion guide that focuses on key themes, and a dedicated link to join the discussion.
Stay tuned for other movie discussions planned by the Reel Spirit Movie Project, including O Brother Where Art Thou, our January selection.
