The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Center for Spiritual Wisdom’s March film selection is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019). The Center will host an online community discussion of the film on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 7:00-9:00 pm. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind represents the writing and directorial debut of Academy Award winning actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (Twelve Years a Slave), who also stars in the film. His work is an adaptation of the true-to-life documentary William and the Windmill which tracks the remarkable story of a young Malawian boy (William Kamkwamba) who transformed a famine-stricken village—and his own life—by creating a wind-powered generator from spare parts. Ejiofor’s film focuses on William’s teenage village life, his family’s struggles, and the repressive constraints they endured. It provides an uplifting look into the power of familial bonds, the longing to escape through learning, and ultimately the power of the human spirit to transcend existential circumstances.

Participants are asked to view The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind prior to the discussion on March 17. The Center will lead and host electronically through Zoom. The 2-hour discussion will be facilitated by Terry Decker, a veteran of the Reel Spirit Movie Project. This will be the fifth discussion Terry has facilitated.
There is no fee for this event. However, donations to Center for Spiritual Wisdom, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, will be gratefully accepted. A suggested donation of $5 or more per film discussion will help us continue to offer this and similar events.

Registrations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis and you can choose to make a donation via Eventbrite. After registration, participants will receive information about the film, a discussion guide that focuses on key themes, and a dedicated link to join the discussion.
