The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently
Twelve week book study co-led by Dr. Vance Reese & Flora Brooke
Begins Sunday, January 9, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Beginning in January, CSW will be launching a new book study on The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently, by esteemed bible scholars and teachers Amy-Jill Levine and Marc Zvi Brettler. The Bible With and Without Jesus explores how Jews and Christians have historically interpreted and continue to interpret the Hebrew Bible (a misnomer we’ll learn more about from the book!) from different perspectives. Not only does the book point out these differences, but Levine and Brettler comment on their significance, beauty, and power. Those from all spiritual and religious backgrounds will appreciate joining fellow seekers to delve into these stories, but this study will be of particular interest to those familiar with the Jewish and/or Christian traditions. Drawing on the book and a learning guide, participants in this series will experience in-depth discussions and peer learning.
We will meet over Zoom every Sunday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. January 9th through March 27th. The cost is on a sliding scale at either $99 (an option that supports our ability to offer scholarships) or $49. There are a limited number of scholarships available for those who would like to request one. Please email our Registrar FLORA BROOKE for information on scholarships.
Registrations are now being accepted via EVENTBRITE HERE. To allow maximum involvement by all participants, the group will be limited to 15 members. Participants must each purchase their own copy of The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently. Please consider ordering from your local bookstore! In Brevard, NC this is Highland Books.
This book study will be co-led by Dr. Vance Reese, Assistant Professor of Music/Coordinator of Piano Proficiency at Brevard College and member of the Brevard Jewish Community, and Flora Brooke, Assistant for Communications & Administration at CSW.
(choice of $99 or $49 registration fee per person)
CSW is offering this choice, based on your ability to pay, as a way to make our programs as accessible as possible. Those who can pay $99 help make the program accessible to those who cannot.
