Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom

The September installment of A Little About A Lot is entitled Snapshots Across Time: Finding Our Shared Humanity In Pulitzer Prize Winning Images. We will convene on Zoom at 7:00 pm. Eastern Time. Center Associate Terry Decker will facilitate the discussion.

In September’s installment of A Little About A Lot, we will consider our shared humanity through powerful photographs. The Pulitzer organization lists its winners and finalists at their website and most of the site’s pages display the winning photographs (see links below). It is an amazing, if sometimes disturbing, collection of photographs. Our online discussion will engage a series of reflective questions to explore the meaning of the images for participants.

As we explore these images we will be reminded how the power a single image can speak to the depths of our souls. We will rediscover our empathy for one another and the unbreakable bond that unites us as a single human family, reminding us that, despite our differences, we are all part of something greater.

An index is provided for the 80 winning photos, arranged by these subjects or themes: Authority, Culture, Heroism, Natural Disaster, Protest, Social Injustice, Tragedy, and War. These very themes and categorizations will be an object of discussion.

A Warning: Some images are not easy to view. In fact, being evocative appears to be a key criterion for selection by Pulitzer.

Please consume these materials prior to discussion on Sept. 21:

The Center will lead and host the 2-hour discussion electronically through Zoom. Participants are asked to consume the curated material prior to the discussion on September 21. A link to the Zoom session will come to registrants’ inbox in advance of the session.

On Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Center for Spiritual Wisdom will host another installment of its monthly discussion series called A Little About A Lot. The series engages the community in discussions around topics of social, religious, and spiritual interest using short formats like podcasts, web posts, short books, and videos curated from around the digital world.

In September’s installment of A Little About A Lot, we will consider our shared humanity through powerful photographs. These Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs capture moments of joy, sorrow, triumph, and resilience that transcend time and culture, connecting us all on a profound level. As we explore these images we will be reminded how the power a single image can speak to the depths of our souls. We will rediscover our empathy for one another and the unbreakable bond that unites us as a single human family, reminding us that, despite our differences, we are all part of something greater.

From the persistence shown in the Raising of the Flag on Iwo Jima to the haunting image of a naked 9-year-old young girl running towards the camera after a South Vietnamese napalm attack, these photographs document our history, both the moments of triumph and those of unimaginable tragedy. They serve as a testament to the indomitable human spirit, the capacity for both incredible cruelty and boundless compassion.

This is an opportunity to connect with each other on a profound level. As we explore these images together, we will engage in meaningful conversations about the human experience, spirituality, and our shared journey through life. This program will be led by CSW Associate Terry Decker.

There is no fee for this event. However, donations to Center for Spiritual Wisdom, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, will be gratefully accepted. A suggested donation of $8 or more per discussion will help us continue to offer this and similar events.

A Little About A Lot is held the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.
