ALTERNATIVE EVENT IS BEING PURSUED

We regret to inform you that the Oct. 19 in-person event featuring John Philip Newell at Brevard College has been canceled, due to the severe impact of Hurricane Helene. We are currently working to arrange an alternative program with John Philip Newell. We will share more details on Monday, Oct. 7 by 5:00 p.m.

While the Brevard College campus and immediate surroundings have fared well, local officials, business groups, and civic leaders asked that the college minimize outside events. Out of respect for ongoing heroic recovery efforts, the college has canceled many upcoming events, including ours. The governor has implemented a travel advisory to Western North Carolina, asking that all non-essential travel be postponed.

Despite this development, we firmly believe that John Philip Newell’s message is more timely than ever. He eloquently states, “Our work is to help reawaken the sense of the sacred that is already deep in the human soul, our primordial relationship with nature, our ancient mother love of the earth. We can be part of its rising again.” 

These words resonate deeply in light of Hurricane Helene and its devastating aftermath. Our goal is to bring Newell’s insights and teachings to the greater community. His valuable perspectives on spiritual and ecological concerns are vital during this challenging time.

The Oct. 19 program was planned to be a significant fundraising event for the Center. We will soon announce options for ticket holders, including the ability to convert your ticket purchase into a donation to benefit Center for Spiritual Wisdom and aid relief and recovery efforts in Western N.C.
